In the ever fluctuating business of film exports where business equations keep changing from time to time, it takes a great deal of grit and determination besides a sound business acumen, to keep a steady business graph for years together. More so, when the odds are heavy and every step has to be measured carefully. The success story of Chandrakant Mehta, the proprietor of C.A. Corporation, is a case in point.

It has been more than 45 years since Mehta first stepped into the business of film exports. That was the time when no other distributor had quite taken the initiative of tapping the market for film exports. The colour era of films had just begun and Mehta was closely observing the overseas market to explore the potential for Indian cinema. The decision was made soon after and Mehta took the pioneering step of setting up his own export house. A one-man show at that time. But nevertheless a very well-planned and promising move. It started with two films initially, after which the business gradually began to gather momentum.

From 1958- 2003, these 45 years have been eventful ones for the company. The company has been a witness to several trials and tribulations during these years and stands strong with all its achievements today. On one hand it has made all the sensible strides in business and on the other averted setbacks in difficult times. Currently, it has 400 titles to its credit, all of them unique and qualitative.

Mehta is now joined in his business by his dynamic and ambitious son, Mihir Mehta, who has already charted out a great future for the company.

Like his father, Mihir is known to be a stickler for his commitment. Ever since he joined the company with his father, he has ensured that the company has participated in every international festival and film market.

He is also in constant touch with the latest world trends in cinema and has been keeping a keen eye on the DVD market and its potential. In fact, the new focus on the DVD market, is as much as Mihir's brainchild, as his father's.

Another quality about Mihir is the way he keeps himself updated about every new film release in the market and how far it can be viable in the international market. According to him, a film can be good by itself, but it is necessary to ensure that it has the commercial viability required for the international market, in terms of its content and presentation.

Being the secretary of the Film Exporters' Association, Mehta has been actively supporting the battle against DVD pirates and has been making all round efforts in that direction.

He also ensures that the members of the association are aware about the international trends in film-making and urges them to attend all the film markets and festivals.

Mehta is among the few film exporters who's against the idea of paying undeserving prices for films. Thanks to exporters like him, producers have stopped taking film exporters for a ride.
